DARK AGE, BAD TIME TO BE A MONK

During the late 8th to the late 11th centuries Vikings raided north and central Europe, well not only raid they were also great sailors, traders and artisans, but they are mostly known as violent, intrepid and great fighters. When SAGA went out I bought some hirdmen and some Saxons, I thought it was gonna be a lot of games with my friends but after a couple of months we had bought things but never played, as part of my pledge of the challenge I´m cleaning my pile of forgotten projects.

All of this warriors are painted in the most easy way I could find, first a metal drybrush, then clothing with kantor blue (gw), refractory green (va) and German camo (va), for the skin, red beige (va) and light flesh (va)followed of washes of ogryn flesh and nuln oil. Then some lights for the blue with enchanted blue (gw) and with the base colours for the rest.

The shields have a little bit more of love, I picked some examples around the web and painted them with black and white. The berserks are really bloody using games workshop blood effect, awesome paint, I used to make my own mix with black, red and gloss varnish, but with this paint its the same effect and easier to do.

SKAVENS!!!

 I really hate skavens... I do, never liked them, and never liked people who play with skavens... that last one is not 100% true, but almost. But the thing is that my friend Anita told me to play Mordheim and she wanted to play with them so after two years I painted a warband and I enjoyed it so much that im gonna play with them.

 The clan Eshin is the chosen to search wyrdstone in the city of the damned, also is the biggest warband you can collect, top of twenty members, very fast runners and cheap!!!! for 20gc you have a regular verminkin, armed with a dagger and for only 2gc they have a sling.



In Mordheim the best thing is to have attacks, not good ones just a lot and a starting band of 18 members will be outnumbering the rest of the warbands for the very first beggining.

I used really old models and some of the ones from the mordheim official band, the old ones are from a lot I bought like 3 years ago, and the morheim ones are heritage from friends who left the hobby when they grow up... hehehe so its a really cheap part of my leadpile and im really happy to have it a little less huge pile.

This band is my first entry for the challenge, now im working in a viking warband for saga so for a little ill be far from the dark and grimm city but i have some buildings to finsih



The paint was really fast and simple, black priming followes by some grey drybrushes of greyscale, for the flesh i went from flat brown (va) to beige red (va) to light flesh (va), and a washed with ogre felsh ink (gw). I thins its the most important part of the models and it looks they way I liked it. Right after I finished I felt that they need something else so they have now blood in the weapons and now Im happy hehehe.

big place for big fun

I´ve been really, really, really busy this last year, one of the things that took a lot of time, energy and money was to renovate my flat, but now I have a cool house and a cool house is not ready without a good man cave, so here it is!!!

books, books, books...

I have space for a big gaming table and space to paint with up to three friends, so this year I guess its gonna be full of hobby... cause actually I have to stay at home...

Clean and under control, not gonna last hahahaha

SIXTH ANNUAL ANALOGUE HOBBIES PAINTING CHALLENGE

For the last few year I´ve been following the blog Analogue Hobbies and it´s painting challenge. For the last year I´ve been really busy and I left the blog a little bit dead, but I´m ready, I´m in for 500 points, the 28mm models are 5 points for each infantry I paint, 10 for the mounted or crews and 15 for the vehicles, my models are usually 28mm so I have to paint around 80 infantrymen and some vehicles, in like 3 months... For me the hard part is not to find time to paint, its more difficult to find the moment to make proper photos and sit down to write, but this time I´m ready.

On my desk:

The tempestus scions primed and ready to be painted, they are 45 troops,4 Valkyries and a Knight.

Lord of the Rings hobbit army plus the grey company (aragorn and some friends).

Russian army for bolt action.

Skaven warband for mordheim.

Chaos army for warmaster.

Chaos warriors for Age of Sigmar.

Viking warband for saga.

I have more around the house and more ideas but I´m gonna try to focus to achieve at least the tempestus army, the skaven and the vikings for saga, with this i would have more than 500 points and I really want to get into the bonus rounds, this year the challenge goes around the risk takers, gamblers and daredevils and the bonus rounds are:

• January 3rd: Nostalgia 

• January 17th: Epic Fail 

• January 31st : Defensive Terrain 

• February 14th: L'amour 

• February 28th: Nautical 

• March 13th: Gambler/Risk-Taker

 Im gonna start assembling and priming the first 500 points and buying a nice table with lights for the photos...

FIRST UNIT FINISHED, LETS GO WITH THE CLANSMEN

 

As you can check the first unit is finished, this tunnel fighters are ready to cut in thin slices some grobi or skaven... and occasionally some elves just for fun. This will be the main unit in my army, well it might be cause it worth 400 points!!! and without the hero that is gonna be included...

In paint terms I went really easy, just some dark metal colours and some colourful beards and shields to contrast, so as always I'm painting grim even when tried to go more lightful, happy and oldhammer style... but i can´t... no unicorns and candy in my mind, just dark things.
 
The next unit, that is almost finished (something really hard to do cause actually I'm my own slave at the office...) CLANSMEN, this plastic models where the first ones I´ve bought for games workshop back there in the nineties, I have no command for this unit but in a lot there was this standard bearer made with the frame and two axes, so if the last owner thought it was a good idea, ill buy it.


Well next unit will be a cannon and probably a unit of thunderers.

A TALE OF SEVERAL GAMERS

During my first days in this hobby, when I was at the end of the month waiting for my white dwarf, I founded a series of articles of four guys whit a monthly budget for collecting a new army, so they buy, assemble, paint and play with this armies, this was my favourite series at this times, and after that I did this with friends, but never checked with photos, or writing about it.


A couple of nights ago I´ve founded this blog, so after a short talk with richard he invited me to this challenge, so here I am and this is my first entrance, a unit of iron breakers, well as you can guess i´m gonna paint a dwarf army and now i´m working in the background, I have a huge leadpile of marauder dwarves so I don´t really think I´m gonna need to buy a lot of "new" models, but who knows I have issues... hehehe.

This is my project for february and I hope I´m gonna be able to finish in time.

CATACHAN JUNGLE FIGHTERS

Marbo: half ork is good ork

Long time ago I´ve painted this army with the help of my friends, it was a little project to paint some catachan jungle fighters and their heroes, we make Marbo cause it was very iconic during the third edition, it was one of the lame models of the era like the original Lemartes... but the idea of Rambo was funny enough to deserve a model in my force. the rest of the army is made by veteran squads, an sentinel fo recon and the lovely hellhound.

Hace mucho tiempo que pinte este ejercito con mis amigos, era un pequeño proyecto para pintar algunas tropas de la jungla y sus heroes, hicimos un Marbo porque era muy iconico durante la tercera edicion, era uno de esas minis vergonzosas como el primer Lemartes... Pero la idea de un Rambo era suficiente divertida como para merecer una mini en mi ejervito, el resto del ejercito son escuadras de veteranos, un sentinel de reconocimiento y un adorable hellhound.

I was just a young guy at the highschool when I readed Lord of the Rings, and from all the appareances the ones of the Rohirrim were my favourite, Eomer was a great hero with good and loyal soldiers and his sister the kind of woman I would like to have by my side, Theoden after been healed by Gandalf has the best quotes of the book, motivational speeches that would make me charge against all this uruk hai or mordor troops...

Era solo un chaval de instituto cuando leí el Señor de los Anillos, y de todas las apariciones las de los rohirrim eran mis favoritas, Eomer era un gran héroe con soldados buenos y leales y su hermana el tipo de mujer que querría tener a mi lado, Theoden después de ser curado por Gandalf tiene las mejores frases del libro, discursos inspiradores que yo cargara contra todos esos uruk hai o tropas de mordor...

 I only collected models when GW released the first three games about LOTR but never played a lot, it was the parchis of the wargames for me, but when the battle system the war of the rings came out was the perfect excuse to assemble and paint an army of this brave men and their horses... hehehehe.

Solo me dedique a coleccionar miniaturas cuando GW saco los primeros tres juegos del señor de los anillos pero nunca los jugué mucho, eran el parchis de los wargames, pero cuando salio el sistema de batallas la guerra del anillo fue la perfecta excusa para montar y pintar un ejercito de estos valientes hombres y sus caballos... hehehehe

RED DEVILS II

 

After painting the clothes and equipment, I have to finish with the skin, eyes and basing. For the skin I don't have a recipe yet, in all this years painting I have use lots of combinations but at the end of the day the easier is to pick some brown for the base and start mixing with flesh colors.

 

Después de pintar la ropa y el equipo tengo que terminar con la piel, ojo y las peana. Para la piel no tengo una receta aun, en todos estos años pintando he usado muchas combinaciones pero al final lo más fácil es coger un tono marrón para la base e ir mezclando con tonos de piel.

 

For the bases I went easy, some sand, a wash with model wash brown (V) and some static grass.

Para las peanas tire a lo fácil, arena, un lavado con tinta marrón (V) y un poco de césped electrostático.

Well the first squads are ready and I have some reinforcements on the table. Hope you liked it.

RED DEVILS I

As I said on monday I´m working on some british paras, the red devils are 1st Parachute Brigade. As its name indicates, the unit was the first parachute brigade formation in the British Army. I´ve made some research on the colors to use to make them loyal to the real men, I´ve used vallejo (V), andrea (A) and citadel (C) paints for this project.

After priming the models in black, I give them Neutral Grey (V), and base with British Uniform (V) with the airbrush. For the jacket camouflage I've used Matt Brown (V) and Refractory Green (V). In this step I paint also the berets with Flat Red (V) and the cartridges and belts with Cam.Beige (V). Now we go shadowing the whole model with a wash of Agrax Earthshade(C)



Como comentaba el lunes estoy trabajando en unos paracaidistas britanicos, los red devils son la primera Prigada Paracidista. Como su nombre indica, esta fue la primera brigada paracidista formada en el Ejercito Britanico. He hecho algunas pesquisas sobre los colores a usar para hacerlos fieles a los hombres reales. He usado pinturas de vallejo (V), andrea (A) y citadel (C) para este proyecto.

Despues de imprimar las figuras en negro, les di una capa de Gris Neutral (V), y el color base con Uniforme Ingles (V) con el aerografo. Para las chaquetas use Marron Mate (V) y Verde Refractario (V). En este punto también pinte las boinas con Rojo Mate (V) y las cartucheras y correas con Cam.Beige (V). Ahora es cuando se sombrea toda la figura con Agrax Earthshade (C).

When the wash it´s dry we go with the lights, i´ve used the same colors of the base but avoiding the shades created by the wash

Cuando el lavado esta seco vamos con las luces, he usado los mismo colores base pero evitando las sombras creadas por el lavado.

 The rifles are Matt Brown (V) for the wood and leadbelcher (C) for the metal areas, black wash with Nuln Oil (C). Like the rest of the colors i´ve used the base colors for lights.

Los rifles estan pintados con Marron Mate (V) para la madera y leadbelcher (C) para las zonas metalicas, un lavado de negro con Nuln Oil (C). Como en el resto de colores he usado los colores base para las luces.

D-DAY

 

Well the 70th anniversary of the d-day it´s this week... and I think there is something I should do, I've started a search (quest) on my lead pile and I found some British paras from west wind. As you can guess it's my project of the month, 500 points for bolt action.

Bueno el 70 aniversario del día d es esta semana... y creo que debería hacer algo, así que he hecho una búsqueda o mas bien una aventura en mi cajón de muñecos y he encontrado unos paracaidistas británicos de west wind. Como habréis adivinado es mi proyecto del mes, 500 puntos de bolt action

I have two squads of five men with one smg, one paramedic, one artillery FO, two snipers, two flamethrowers, mortar team, para with PIAT, and two officers, this saturday I´m gonna be at Goblin trader for the bolt action special day and there I will make the list and buy the book.

Tengo dos escuadras de cinco hombres con un subfusil, un medico, un observador de artilleria, dos francotiradores, dos lanzallamas, un equipo de mortero, un paracaidista con PIAT y dos oficiales, este sábado estaré en Goblin trader en el día especial de bolt action y ya me haré la lista y comprare el libro.

GENESTEALER CULT of KLUSTER

My friend Kluster is an amazing creative hobbyist, takes the "count as" to new level. He uses the same technic the last 20 year's and he does it great.

This army is used as a chaos space marine army, so he has to explain to his adversaries who is who but after that there is only fun.
